Set limits before exposure

If you are an adult and choose a legal gambling activity, set a fixed amount you can afford to lose and a time limit in advance. Keep it separate from rent, food, transport, debt payments and savings. Stop at the first limit reached. Do not borrow or use credit to continue.

Avoid gambling when distressed, intoxicated, sleep-deprived or trying to solve a money problem. Do not chase losses or treat a win as a reason to keep playing. Record spending across all accounts.

Recognise warning signs

Hiding time or spending, repeatedly exceeding a budget, chasing losses, borrowing, neglecting responsibilities, feeling restless when stopping or using gambling to cope are reasons to pause and seek support. You do not need to wait for debt to become severe.

Use account limits, time-outs or self-exclusion where available, and ask a trusted person to help protect essential funds. A phone setting alone may not be enough.
