The NGB verified-operator portal states that its data comes from provincial licensing authorities. When checked 19 October 2026, it included a Western Cape entry for Raging River Trading (Pty) Ltd t/a Betway (South Africa), type BOOKMAKER, licence reference 10181496-012. A separate Mpumalanga row lists Betway/Jackpot City as bookmaker, licence 9-2-1-09658. These entries identify legal entities and categories, rather than only a brand name.
The record is time-sensitive. Reopen the NGB register and issuing provincial authority before relying on it; confirm date, company, brand, licence type, territory and status. Search snippets may be stale and similarly named entities can hold different approvals.
A bookmaker entry is activity-specific
The NGB says online betting is legal with a licensed South African bookmaker and separately states that online gambling is prohibited except such betting. That public guidance does not support treating a sports-betting licence as blanket permission for online slots, live casino, bingo or every interactive game shown on the same website.
